My Te Reo Selfie video

In term 3 my class has focused a bit more on learning maori. We have created videos about our selves and where we have come from. It is all said in Te Reo maori but some of the pictures may explain about what I am saying. I found this task challenging because we did not have a lot of ipads at this time so it was a struggle to get one before everyone else. Other than that I found that it was very fun to make, please enjoy watching and comment.

Emperor Tamarin

For our writing this week we have been focusing on report writing. We got the choice on what we writ our report on. My report is about the emperor tamarin monkey.

The  saguinus imperator, also known as the Emperor Tamarin belongs to the Callitrichidae family. This is
a family of New World monkeys. It is found  in the southwest Amazon basin, in east Peru, North Bolivia
and the west Brazilian states of Acre and Amazonas. It’s species is Tamarin Allagedly it is named for its
close resemblance to a german emperor wilhelm.

Appearance

The Emperor Tamarin  has a mixture of orange, white and red hair on it’s chest and belly, with dark
brown fur on it’s back. It is an orange colour on its inner sides of the legs and arms. It has claws on its
fingers and toes except the big toe which has a nail. It has a long white mustache and has a black chin with
unnoticable white hairs.

Diet
The emperor tamarins diet is mainly made up of plants, but they also feed on insects such as butterflies,
beetles, spiders, locusts, and ants.  They will sometimes eat tree sap ,fruit, and small vertebrates such as
lizards and tree frogs. They will often steal eggs from bird nest.

Behaviour
The Emperor Tamarin is  very active and constantly moving during the day. Because of there small size
they are very agile and can leap from branch to branch. They are very playful and friendly primates and
when they are keeped in captivity they love to be pet by humans. There groups consist of up to fifteen
other members.

Habitat
The emperor tamarin is mainly found in the amazonian lowland that  and lower montane rain forests and
the remnant, primary and secondary forest.  The amazonian lowlands holds an abundance of water
during the high sea level due to the flooding from nearby water sources, this makes the very humid,
tropical climate to occur year round. The lozer montane forests emperor tamarins are mostly found in are
considered are tropical and moist with an abundance of vegetation. In the dry season flowery peaks and in
the wet season, flowering decreases this affects the emperor tamarins diet. Emperor tamarins are also
found in the amazonian secondary forests, which account for forty percent of the forest area.

Reproduction
The emperor tamarins first reproduction is when they are 16 to 20 months old. With a gestation time of up
to 6 months. Emperor Tamarins are seasonal breeders and it’s breeding is baste on food availability.
During the wet season, when there is lots of food, that is when most births occur.

Thankfully Emperor tamarins are not endangered but its population is decreasing. This is because of
deforestation and human encroachment. Emperor tamarins are unique and loving animals that deserve a
place in our world.

My writing

This week for writing we have had a brake from doing explaining writing, and instead we were shown a picture of this bird to write about it was a free choice of what kind of writing we wanted to do. I just did a poem on how the bird was trapped in the plastic bag. please enjoy.

Trapped and lonely, its wings restricted from freely soaring through the air. Hungry and alone as it gets asphyxiated from the carelessness of human beings and there rubbish. As the chaotic bird watches as his free, fulfilling life becomes trapped and miserable. Struggling and weak as it,s fraile legs are restrained from walking, losing balance every try. Longing for the feeling of being free rather than being trapped and alone. The littering and pollution needs to stop because the animals and the environment are paying for what humans are doing.

Plastic bags

This term we have been focusing on pollution and what is causing it. I have written a explanation writing on how plastic bags are destructive to the environment. please enjoy and take care of our planet.

Have you ever thought about the impact that plastic bags have on our environment? Every year New Zealand has a ratio of 4 million people to 1 billion plastic bags. They take from ten to one thousand years to break up and in this time they are causing a mass amount of problems. Plastic bags are bad for animals in all kinds of ways. Not only does it hurt the environment, but it also doesn't look good. Plastic bags also helps to pollute the earth, along with other plastic and waste.

Plastic bags are a big issue all around especially when it comes to animals. Animals all over the world are found dead with tens to hundreds of pieces of plastic in them. Turtles main food is jellyfish, and when a plastic bag is floating around in the water it can be mistaken for a jellyfish, this causes them to have a slow and painful death. Plastic bags can also trap and strangle animals while they are swimming. Other animals like cows can also eat plastic bags that find their way into farms and the cows get very sick, they can even die.

Plastic bags can ruin almost any kind of natural habitat, such as forests, deserts and wetlands. Pollution never looks good but sometimes it can get out of hand, there are islands made from rubbish and plastic and most of it is from plastic bags that have floated there.

The world is slowly suffocating because of the plastic bags.Plastic bags can get into the soil and release toxic chemicals animals then eat it and get sick. The plastic bags can injure and hurt the animals that look after the trees and plants. These trees help to produce oxygen that people breathe. Without the animals that look after the trees the trees die and therefore they will not produce oxygen to breath, so it also affect humans.

Plastic bags are a huge issue all over the globe. They hurt animals, they damage the earth itself and it destroys the beautiful, natural landscapes. Things need to change, and it starts with you. So the next time you go shopping what kind of bags will you use?
